1. Pronoun, referring to a time, place, or thing that is relatively close, in contrast to "那" (nà):
Example: 这儿 (zhè er - here), 这些 (zhè xiē - these), 这个 (zhè ge - this), 这样 (zhè yàng - this way).
2. Referring to the moment of speaking:
Example: 他这时候就来 (tā zhè shíhòu jiù lái - he will come at this moment).
3. Referring to the currently mentioned or relatively close person, object, event, or idea ([En.] this).
4. Referring to the current moment or now ([En.] now).
5. The pronunciation of "这 (zhè)一" but does not limit the quantity to one:
Example: 这一个 (zhè yī ge - this one), 这一点儿 (zhè yī diǎn er - this little bit), 这些年 (zhè xiē nián - these years).
6. The colloquial sound of "这 (zhè)" ([En.] this), commonly used before measure words or quantifiers:
Example: 这二列火车 (zhè èr liè huǒchē - these two trains), 这本书 (zhè běn shū - this book).
7. The combination of "这一" but does not limit the quantity to one:
Example: 这个 (zhè ge - this), 这点儿 (zhè diǎn er - this little bit), 这些年 (zhè xiē nián - these years).
